Her body is in the shape of a gourd, the oldest utilitarian vessel known to mankind. The gourd is used as storage, to carry water, to shape pottery and as a rattle in ceremonies. The flat plane that runs down the middle of her body represents the womb.

The basket and its design represent the four sacred directions of Hopi life. Northeast(White), Southeast(Red), Northwest (Yellow) and Southwest(Blue). These represent the four seasons of life and the four types of corn that Hopis grow in their gardens. The basket is a flat basket made by the women of third Mesa where Kim is from.

She has no face, which symbolizes the egalitarian society of the Hopi people. She represents a people, not an individual. The Hopi thought is: One Mind, one Body, and one Spirit.
