Kim’s calling reflects the spirit of Hopi art and this sculpture spoke to her and asked to be named "The Calling". Her story came to Kim while she was yet without form. She was guided to preserve the heritage of her people and be a voice, To help you feel the beauty embodied in the Hopi Nation. As a Mother she knows this feeling to be " The Calling" in her life.

The Hopi people are a matriarchal society, where a child’s lineage comes from the mother. In traditional Hopi culture the women own the home, all of the household materials as well as the seeds planted every spring. A man will come to live with his wife’s family after marriage.
